Courthouse Summer Scheme Full of Creativity and Adventure

Our first Courthouse Summer Scheme was a fantastic week of creativity, learning, and adventure for local children. Each day was packed with games, crafts, and exciting visits with local organisations and community groups.

At Bushmills Community Garden, children enjoyed listening to local stories from volunteers while taking part in planting activities and bug hunts. Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust joined us for an interactive archaeology session led by Tierna and Grace, where children explored local history through clay pot making, artefacts, and a visit to the Stone Age tomb at Mount Druid.

During our Portballintrae day, Geoff Baird from the Portballintrae Residents Association organised a heritage treasure hunt, taught rope splicing skills, and led beach games.

The scheme finished with a visit to National Trust at Giant’s Causeway, where Rhonda and Cliff shared local myths, legends, and wildlife knowledge. The children explored the famous stones and took part in rock pooling activities to discover the area’s marine life and heritage.

The summer scheme was thoroughly enjoyed by all and created wonderful opportunities for children to learn, explore, and connect with local heritage in a fun and engaging way.
