Marion McConaghie

I’ve always had a fascination with the passage of time in terms of how it affects colour along with the beauty inherent in the process of decay.

I grew up near the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland, so perhaps growing up near this rugged and wild coastline instilled in me the rhythmic language of nature. This manifests in particular in my original paintings of various abstract seascapes and landscapes, which use colours and tones from nature, textured with parallel ripples running through the centre, suggesting misty horizons and hidden lands.

A woman with glasses on her head, scarf, and brown overalls carefully paints a canvas with a small brush.

In addition to the abstracts she creates, Marion creates prints and originals denoting dreamy portraits of subjects from the natural world such as wild horses, flying birds, butterflies and echoes of people. Infused with themes of freedom and movement, these are full of loose, sketchy strokes and vibrant colours.
