Saturday 22nd April | 2pm - 4pm
Discover the story, sound, and soul of the Irish harp in this immersive cultural workshop on the Causeway Coast. Led by professional harpist Lucia, this unique experience blends storytelling, live music, and a hands-on opportunity to play one of Ireland’s most iconic instruments.
Lucia brings years of professional performance, teaching, and therapeutic music experience, offering participants a warm, engaging introduction to the harp’s rich cultural heritage. You’ll learn about the harp’s remarkable 1,000-year history, its role as Ireland’s national emblem, and why Irish harping has been recognised by UNESCO as an important living cultural tradition.
The workshop begins with a beautiful welcome performance before guiding participants through the history and symbolism of the harp in Irish culture. Lucia then provides one-to-one guidance so each guest can place their hands on the strings of a real Irish harp, learn how to produce a clear tone, and play a simple Irish melody.
The experience concludes with a short recital featuring both traditional airs and contemporary arrangements, showcasing the harp’s expressive and timeless sound. Guests will also have the opportunity to take photographs with the harp and receive a takeaway sheet of music to remember the experience.
Perfect for heritage enthusiasts, music lovers, and visitors seeking an authentic cultural encounter, this workshop requires no musical experience—most participants will be playing their first tune within minutes.
Refreshments including tea, coffee, and water are provided.
