A Creative Summer at the Courthouse
August brought a brilliant burst of colour, creativity, and summer fun to the Courthouse, with two weeks of activities giving local young people the chance to try something new every day.
From Monday to Thursday, each day brought a different creative experience, with a fantastic line-up of talented local artists and makers sharing their skills. We got the week off to a colourful start with wet felting with Andrea Hayes, where children explored different techniques and created their own unique felted pieces. It was a great introduction to a craft that allows plenty of room for imagination and creativity.
Tuesday was all about getting creative with ceramics during our mug designing workshop with Christina from Meraki Art. Participants had the opportunity to put their own stamp on their mugs, creating colourful, completely individual designs to enjoy long after the workshop finished.
On Wednesday, things got wild with Canvas Animals led by Olive McCaughan! Participants used their creativity to bring their own animal designs to life on canvas, resulting in a fantastic collection of colourful and imaginative artwork.
And, of course, no week of creativity would be complete without something sweet! Thursday saw the children get stuck into cake decorating with Grace McCollum from Lanterns Cakes and Bakes. With plenty of creativity involved, everyone had the chance to decorate their own delicious creations while learning new cake decorating skills along the way.
With such a varied programme, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The workshops allowed everyone to experiment with different materials, meet new people and discover creative talents they may not have known they had.
But the summer fun didn't stop there!
Our Bracelet and Badge Making Workshops proved to be hugely popular, with several sessions taking place throughout the summer. Children enjoyed creating colourful beaded bracelets and designing their own badges, with plenty of enthusiasm and creativity on display at every session. It was lovely to see some of the handmade bracelets being made as special gifts for family and friends too.
We also welcomed families to our Family Summer Craft Drop-In, where children could drop in and enjoy a selection of fun, summer-themed crafts. The relaxed format meant families could get creative together, choose activities they enjoyed and spend some quality time making and creating.
A huge thank you goes to all of our wonderful workshop leaders and to the National Lottery, who made our summer scheme possible.
And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us over the summer. Seeing the excitement, imagination and pride in everyone's creations has made this a summer to remember!
