Celebrating Creativity and Community Throughout June
June was another fantastic month of creativity, connection and community engagement, with a wide range of workshops bringing people of all ages together to learn new skills, make lasting memories, and enjoy time spent in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Throughout the month, participants took part in a variety of hands-on creative experiences, each designed to encourage self-expression, wellbeing and social connection while celebrating the talents and creativity within our local community.
The month began with members of the HUG Group joining us for a Community Painting and Potting Workshop. Participants decorated their own bespoke plant pots before filling them with colourful flowers, creating beautiful personalised displays to take home. Over tea and coffee, everyone enjoyed spending time together, chatting and getting creative before finishing the afternoon with a tour of Bushmills, making it a truly memorable day for all involved.
Our final Kids Crafting session before the summer break was also a great success. The "May Flowers" themed workshop gave children the opportunity to create beautiful floral artwork, colourful butterfly suncatchers and a range of seasonal spring crafts. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces throughout the session, and to hear positive feedback from both children and parents. We look forward to welcoming everyone back when our children's workshops return in September.
As part of Volunteer Week, we were delighted to welcome volunteers from Home-Start Causeway to a Felted Landscape Workshop. Participants spent the afternoon learning new felting techniques while creating stunning landscape artworks inspired by nature. Every piece reflected the creativity and individuality of its maker, with volunteers leaving proud of the unique keepsakes they had produced.
Creativity continued throughout June with a series of Candle Making Workshops led by Gina Thompson from Causeway Aromatics for members of the Ballybogey Over 50's Group and Women's Aid Group. Across several sessions, participants learned about the candle-making process while creating their own handcrafted candles, tealights and diffusers. The workshops provided a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and enjoy spending time together, with the beautiful fragrances filling the room, adding to the enjoyable experience.
We also hosted two Adult Heritage Taster Sessions, where participants explored the traditional craft of macramé. Learning a variety of knotting techniques, everyone created their own unique macramé keyrings to take home. These relaxed and enjoyable sessions were filled with creativity, conversation and plenty of laughter, highlighting how traditional crafts continue to bring people together.
Across every workshop held throughout June, it was inspiring to see participants develop new skills, express their creativity and build meaningful connections with others. Whether painting, planting, felting, candle making or knotting macramé, each activity demonstrated the positive impact that creative experiences have on wellbeing and community life.
